Hope this finds you well wherever you are. So what has been going on? Well – last time we spoke I was about to play an acoustic show in Guildford at the Farenheit 55 Bar. That show was great – I enjoyed very much making some new friends and catching up with some old ones. Hope to be coming back there sometime soon. So there are some gigs on the horizon  – next weekend on Saturday (27th August) I will be playing a solo slot at the Comedy Pub in Central London. I’m on first at 8pm so be on time, more details on the gig page. On Sunday the 28th Ug i’m plying with Joanne Louise Parker who is headlining the acoustic stage at the Local and Live festival in Tunbridge Wells. We are on at approx 5.30.

Sept 8th the full band plays a showcase at Balhams Bedford arms. Support will come from Joanne once again plus special guest Shaun T Hunter. This promises to be a great night so please put it in your diary and bring your friends as admission for this is free! On the 10th of Sept i’m playing both a short solo set as well as playing with my friend Russell Stone at Bosham House near Chichester.

Really enjoyed the show in Paris, should have some pics from that one soon. We preparing for the release of the live DVD aiming to coincide with a band showcase gig at the Bedford in Balham on September the 8th and booking shows for October.

Busy busy busy here, finished Doe Mehmets album ‘Outlandish’ which will be release in the next couple of months, recording is completed on Joanne Louise Parkers debut album – just the mixes to go now, and the Auburn album which I am also producing is in the final stages of production.

Over the last month its been great to work with the Skints who have come and done a couple of vocal recording sessions here, Russell Stone, the Ganda Boys (at the 100 Club) and i’m really please to see Hollie Cooks album being so well received. Also keep an eye out for my friend Laura Vane’s new album ‘Sugarfix’. Sweet!

Back to the grindstone…

‘Walk In This Direction’ is the self produced, self financed debut album from Brighton singer/songwriter Max Gilkes. It’s achieved airplay in the UK and the States already (including Bob Harris BBC Radio2), critical acclaim in the UK music press (4stars in Uncut magazine), and won fans and friends throughout the world despite no promo budget.

We now have the opportunity to submit the album for consideration for the fabulously prestigious Mercury Music Prize, so – on Wednesday the 18th May I’ll be playing a mini tour of Brighton and Hove including some of Brighton’s favourite lunchtime haunts and finishing with an ‘after work’ show at the Latest Music Bar between 6.30 and 7pm.

So, on Wednesday when you go for your coffee and sandwich head for Ethels Kitchen in Hove (Blatchington Road) between 1 and 1.30, Café Pause in Preston Circus between 2 and 2.30 and after work at the Latest Music Bar from 6.30. Bring any loose change, foreign currency, tesco clubcard vouchers, anything to help us raise the submission fee for the album and lets get to the Mercurys.

Forthcoming shows include Birmingham on the 20th March which is an acoustic show (3 piece) at the kitchen garden cafe Kings Heath followed by the Black Horse near Spalding on the 26th.
